I'm Moving Home!
Does anyone remember Allan Sherman's hilarious hit song which earned him a Grammy award? The song was inspired by letters he received from his son who was away at camp. The song came out in 1963 and was an immediate hit!
The "I'm Moving Home" is my addition bringing it up to date for our current economy. In the good old days kids left home for college, graduated, found a job and moved out of the family home. That is not always happening today. Many of these kids are not finding jobs that will support living on their own.
Here comes the Bride.....and the Groom! Not only are kids moving home, they are often bringing a bride or groom with them - back to the old home place with dear old mom and dad. Many times this starts off as temporary but settles into something more permanent.
This is impacting the real estate market in a number of ways.Parents who were planning on downsizing now need the space. Parents who downsized while the kids were in college now do not have enough space for the extended family.
