Pay it Forward - Supporting the State Kidney Foundation
What a lovely and beautiful Sunday afternoon for a Walk n Stroll along the San Antonio River. Yes, this afternoon’s fund raising event for the Texas State Kidney Foundation had an unexpected record breaking crowd. I didn’t get the official head count on all the participants, but I knew it was a sell out after I checked in today by registering and made my donation. I was immediately told that all those Walk n Stroll T-Shirts for the Kidney walk today were all Sold Out. However, I was able to get an Organ Donor’s T-Shirt.
Now, My friend and fellow Active Rain member, Brenda Mullen told me that she got the last T-Shirt when she signed up at 1:00 P.M. today. There were still people registering for the event after I showed up 30 minutes later. While we were waiting to start our walk at 2:30 P.M., Brenda and I took a lot of photos and listened to live music being performed by a local San Antonio band.
There were several walking teams that had some special colored T-Shirts in all different colors. I am not sure why the were some participants all dressed up as the cast from Star Wars, but I thought their costumes were very colorful. Even the San Antonio Spurs mascot was on hand to entertain all the children and Spurs fans. Awards and recognition were given to all the top fund raisers, and the various committee organizers too.
All in all, it was a wonderful day for a Walk n Stroll for Kidneys along the River Walk. I am sure they exceeded their fund raising goals for today, judging by the size of the crowd. I had a special interest for donating since my late brother was on dialysis and on the waiting list for a Kidney transplant. That was 18 years ago, and I know that we have come a long way with all those advancements in kidney health and organ donations.
Therefore, I was walking today in memory of my brother, Larry, and to support the Texas State Kidney Foundation in their fund raising efforts.
