Chapter 2 - People Come into your life when you need them.
Jacob couldn't settle down, couldn't get easy. It felt like he had had too much coffee that morning but he'd only finished part of a cup. NO, that wasn't it... but Jacob wasn't used to having that knot in the pit of his stomach. He was only a couple of blocks from the post office and today was the day to pick up his new computer. It was being delivered to his personal post office address that he had rented in his curent name Jacob Melroy. He had finally gotten used to using the name that the U S Marshals Office had given him five years ago.
Ava didn't know anything about his past and she didn't need to know. It was better this way. The program furnished them a home, medical care, etc.. Ava thought they were paying rent on their home. The less she knew, the better. Jacob was growing tired of playing this game though and was ready for a home of his own, ready to become what the government said he was to pretend to be. He knew that any purchase he made would have to be in his new name...but oh how he missed his real name and his former life, his friends and family. They had been told that Michael Geniene had died. There was even a funeral.. Jacob chuckled as he thought about it.. he had attended his own funeral, in disguise of course.
He really needed to sit Ava down and talk about buying a home. The Marshals Office had supplied him with a good history, Jacob Melroy had an excellent credit rating, everything would fall in place. They could be in a new home in 45 days if they wanted to. The office was so thorough, Jacob had no doubts that his new life could withstand the scrutiny it would take to get what he wanted. Real Estate Agents just took your information and found you a home, right? They wouldn't have any reason to dig around and verify EVERYTHING that they came across wit his name on it, would they? I mean, the banks and underwriting would be the people to dig around in his information.. right?
Jacob still had it on his mind as he pushed his way through the glass doors of the post office to pick up his new computer. He should have been paying more attention instead of absent mindedly making steps. He didn't see her until he had already collided with her. Amy Kastedy,. REALTOR, proclaimed the name badge that was pinned over her left breast.
