Question MarkBranding has become an important part of marketing yourself as a Realtor. Here is a great post about what you need to think about as you start the process of building your brand. Also consider how your brand will translate online through your real estate website, blog, and other online networks. What is your website saying about you?

In the Old West branding was the key component to holding on to what was yours.  Unbranded cattle were often branded with the brand of whoever happened to catch them, regardless of who actually owned them.  The Brand was more than that, Old Cowboys rode for the brand and were loyal to it.  It gave them part of their identity, more than just a job, it was part of them.

In todays business climate, we have moved back towards the importance of branding.  What we brand has changed, and we tend to brand ourselves and our company instead of our assets.  We have all heard that branding ourselves is an important aspect of business growth and development.  I came across some questions that we need to ask ourselves as we build our brand:

1. How do you deliver value to your customers?

2. What is different about your service?

3. What do you have that distinctive from your competitors?

4. Do you provide dependable and reliable service?

5. Do you anticipate and solve problems before they become crisises?

6. Do you save the client money and headaches?

7. Do you operate within the parameters of a budget?

8. What do you add that is remarkabut, measurable, distinguished and has distinctive value?

9. What would you brag about as your strongest suit?

10. What are you most noted for?

Once you have completed this exercise, there are some follow up questions to help you further define your brand.

1. What do you think your brand is?

2. What is your message?

3. Is your message clear?

4. Are you a credible expert?

5. Do you find solutions for your clients?

6. Do you truly connect with your clients?

7. Do you stay connected?

8. Do you motivate past clients to refer you?

9. Are you developing client loyalty?

10. Is your brand synonymous with first-class service?

I am sure that there are other things to remember.  Branding is much more than marketing, it is a commitment to serving and devoloping loyal clients for life.  I hope that this helps some of you as much as it has me.  Several of these questions really got me thinking.

Once defined, it is up to you to build awareness of that brand.  It should become a part of what you do.  Sort of like the Cowboys in the Old West, it needs to become part of our business identity.  Make it a great week and good luck defining your brand.
