The holiday season is in full gear, and Silver Spring home owners are fortunate to have LOADS of places to go and things to do! Here's a glimpse at the possibilities available for your enjoyment during the upcoming week:

Saturday, December 10: Join the Winter Celebration hosted by TLC. From 10am-2pm, there'll be free admission at the Veterans Plaza Silver Spring Skating Rink (please bring a nonperishable food donation for the Capital Area Food Bank).

Also on Saturday, stop by the Silver Spring Farmers Market (it's open through December 30) from 10am-1pm. The Silver Spring market can be found in the heart of downtown Silver Spring on Ellsworth Drive between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue.

Sunday, December 11 is your final opportunity to enjoy the 22nd Washington Jewish Film Festival. Watch films, take part in programs, and discussions with filmmakers. An exhibition of international cinema, the Washington Jewish Film Festival brings to life the wonderful diversity of the Jewish experience, culture and history with new and award-winning feature films, documentaries and shorts. Call (202) 777-3231 for details.

On Monday, December 12, take the family to see The British Players present Puss in Boots, a theatrical treat which has delighted audiences across the pond for hundreds of years. Songs, dances, buffoonery, in-jokes, audience participation and a bit of innuendo will delight all. Go to www.britishplayers.org or call the box office at 301-875-8544 for additional information.

Does your 3-5 year old want to find out All About Snowflakes? On Tuesday, December 13, they can! Find out where they come from, how they're made and what happens after they fall to earth. Learn about snowflake shapes and make a snowflake of your very own to take home. Register at www.parkpass.org.

Looking for something fun to do on Wednesday, December 14? The Seneca Valley Sugarloafers Volksmarch Club is sponsoring a seasonal, self-guided Kensington Holiday Lights walk in Kensington. The 10 km walk (with a 5 km option) offers an opportunity to view holiday lights and decorations through Historical Kensington, along Howard Avenue's Antique Row and the Mormon Temple Visitor's Center on sidewalks and paved roadway shoulders. Pick up your map at the Safeway, Customer Service Desk, 10541 Connecticut Avenue, Kensington, MD 20895. The walk is free.

If you need a laugh, you'll find it on Thursday, December 15 in Frederick. In The Eight: Reindeer Monologues, Santa’s reindeer are dishing out the real dirt on ol’ St. Nick. Want to know the truth about him and the elves? About Rudolph’s little secret? About Vixen’s story that was leaked to the press? The reindeer finally speak, and they’re not holding back! Call 301-694-4744 for more details.

Finally, on Friday, December 16, get an inside look at the Muppets. With the release of the new Muppets movie, it's a great time to take a look back at the screen legacy of Muppets creator Jim Henson in film and television. The retrospective will include a mix of classics as well as well as compilations of both classic and rare television work. Please visit AFI.com/Silver to see the full program schedule and to purchase tickets.

I'm glad you're also doing posts about things to do.  I find that I use Active Rain at least as much for creating things to send to locals as for advertising and making new contacts.   Good to see your work.   We love the mountains of Tennessee, but I have great memories of Montgomery County.  Give my old friends my best wishes.   Who else in that office is on AR?
