NORTH ATTLEBORO – Visitors yesterday were finally able to take a peak inside the historic homes in North Attleboro that my Mother Ann Chapdelaine and the Historical Commission had been trying to keep secret.

Timeless Treasures, was a self-guided tour of 11 historic homes which included:

107 High Street North Attleboro107 Church Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts- The John J. Sommer House, Circa 1890. This beautiful Victorian home was originally John Sommer’s jewelry store on the first floor with living quarters on the second and third floor. However once my girls heard it was the DeBlois Funeral home from 1938-1964 they quickly waited for me outside!

244 South Washington Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts-The William E. Smith House, Circa 1886. My girls vote this house “Best in the Tour”. Who wouldn’t love a home that looks like gingerbread house with with seven fireplaces and a playroom with some of the highest view in town.

152 South Washington Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts- The Edgar L. Hixon House built in 1881. A Victorian home with a beautiful attached greenhouse and its own carriage house which has milking stalls in the basement. The yard is simply amazing and should be rented out for weddings and events in my opinion.

362 North Washington Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts- The Woodcock –Hatch-Maxcy House, Circa 1725. The first settler in the Attleborough was John Woodcock. Know today as the Woodcock Garrison House, it is a favorite field trip for local 3rd graders in North Attleboro.

51 High Street North Attleboro by Sherlye DeGirolamo51 High Street , North Attleboro, Massachusetts-Jarvis Hunt House, built in 1900. I grew up on High Street and this was always one of my favorites, and it also resembles my parents home at 111 High Street. The owner that I remember was Attorney Jarvis Hunt, he was a town selectman in the early 1930’s, and served in the State Senate in 1936-1942 and later ran his law office Old Stable which is now a beautifully renovated guest home.

61 High Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts-Draper/LeStage House Circa 1840. This is one of the oldest homes on High Street. The Draper family had a track which trained race horses which later became Sayles Dairy Farm, which I used to love to hang out at when I was young.

217 Elm Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts- The William Sherman House built in 1906. William Sherman was a direct descendent of Captain Myles Standish, a Mayflower passenger and a leader of the Plymouth Colony. William Sherman later owed the North Attleborough Gold Refinery with his Father.

20 Bucklin Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts- The John Sinclair House, Circa 1907. This is a beautiful duplex with mirrored floor plans. It was great to see two unique takes on a historic house, the left side has the original features including stained glass, woodwork and an original slate sink. The right side has beautiful granite countertops and modern furnishing, a contemporary take in a historic home.

44 Colburn Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts- The William G. Wemmell House built in 1912. The fourth owners have completely renovated the interior and exterior of this hipped roof house while maintaining the historic charm.

107 High Street North Attleboro 107 High Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts-Edward R. Price House, built in 1883. This beautiful Queen Anne Style Victorian home has three floors with many details including ornate carved fireplaces, tin ceilings, and stained glass windows. The backyard has a quite lovely secluded play area behind the garage.

111 High Street North Attleboro111 High Street, North Attleboro, Massachusetts-The Emily Curtis Ballou House, built in 1912. This is my parents house and the house I grew up in. Believe it or not this house was built as a wedding gift Emily Curtis by her Grandfather Theron Ide Smith who was a prominent jeweler at the time. Veda & Lily would wish to be so lucky! It is a great old Colonial house with spiral stairs from the basement all the way up to the maids quarters on the third floor and a laundry shoot from the third floor to the basement that my sister and I liked to throw things down when we were younger. I thought it was an old dumb waiter, but my Mother corrected me yesterday!
