What Happened Next...

I love this post about using social media to be the best at our business, and how our clients are using it too.   I have gotten lots of buisness from my use of Facebook and Linked in, and of course, Active Rain.   And also been better prepared with information while showing homes because of my iPad.

This is a great story about boomers on their iPads doing research on a prospective neighborhood, and within seconds they found knew someone there and were sold on the place.   Yes, we need to have face face contact and not hide behind a screen all day, but these tools help us be better at our jobs.  Why resist that?

At times I think our new landscape of real estate is all about "what happened next" and then some. Today was one of those days. It began in the office with another one of those watercooler conversations about why NOT to use social networking. You all know the lines: no time, no energy, no return on investment, my clients prefer face-to-fact contact... etc. Given I write a column about it, I am like a magnet for comments and questions. I listened without comment, got my hot water for tea and went back to making appointments for showing selling a home today to new clients from Massachusetts ready to make a lifestyle change.

Fast forward to being in our real estate car this afternoon. Imagine two boomers on their iPad in the back seat busy searching, messaging on Facebook and using google maps to make sure we did not miss a beat or their dream home. It turns out their daughter let them know one of her classmates was in Santa Fe visiting their parents. Within seconds, our clients had their daughter's classmate parent's home on their screen and it turned out it was the neighborhood we had selected to show homes. Within a few more seconds, they had a message in Facebook giving the subdivision rave reviews.

Ok, here is what happened next...  they are going to write an offer. What made the difference? Like most of our boomer clients, they do not fit the stereotype many folks in our profession have of them. They are adapting and using these tools to gather information from many sources to help them make buying decisions. And they know, like them, we are learning too.

What is your experience? What do you see happening next?

Carol, what a great story.  The social media sure can work for us in so many ways.. it's mind boggling to cover it all, but with organizing skills, there can be a lot covered.
