Do Husband and Wife Realty Teams work?

Recently Wendy Witt and I were giving a talk on how our business is improving. Several of the attendees asked the same question.

Is it hard to work with your spouse and what kind of problems does it create?

First let me give you some background. We sometimes confuse people, we are a husband and wife team who have different last names. Wendy Witt had established her name as one of Bedford Best Real Estate agents when we meet. Wendy is a Bedford girl and knows so many of the people. While we were dating, I helped Wendy Witt with her Bedford Real Estate marketing and her recognition grew. So when I became a Bedford Real Estate Agent we co-marketed but did want to lose the market recognition Wendy Witt had already earned. We thought about using some cute marketing phrases such as Bedford Spouses Selling Bedford Houses!

As we were exposed to and joined Keller Williams, we started looking at all new ways to do business, we formed the team name Witt Fogleman, we wanted to keep the brand recognition but take our marketing to a new level.

So getting back to the question, how do we work together.

For us, selling Bedford real estate is our passion and what we love to do. We have three children in the Bedford County Public Schools. They are active in many after school activities so we are often torn between work and the kids. Having the two of us makes it so much easier. One of us can stay with the kids while the other shows homes for sale in Bedford.

There are many other benefits, Wendy Witt and I recognize we both have our strong points, we try to use them as best as we can. While we never sat down and said who would do what, it just worked out that way. When one of us needs help, we can share the work load with the other.

We co-market all of our Bedford homes for sale, as two heads are better than one. Just like marketing, we discuss offers on Bedford properties. Again, two Bedford Real Estate agents working for one customer.

If I had to point to one reason it works for us, it would be because we love selling Bedford Real Estate and we are more concerned with getting results for our clients.

We put our clients goals and needs first.

So it does work for us!

I have always wondered, what do you talk about at home? Can both of you leave work at the office and not talk about it at home?

Scott, it's great that you have a team that works, many times it doesn't. I'm in a father/daughter team with my dad and its great, he is my broker also. We have areas that we specialize in and it makes us a stronger, more effective team. It's great to see that you have such a great thing going.

Loreena- I think your right, personality and the ability to look at the big picture..

Rob- Good question, we love what we do, so we do talk about work a lot. But we also have three kids, many friends and interest. It helps we are best friends, I have had former relationships where it would not have worked at all.

Ema-Sounds like you have a great thing going too. I love my dad, but I don't think we could work together...
