Two Energy Saving Innovations that Make a Big Difference

FYI Now LED light bulbs are also available & are supposed to be even more energy efficient although more expensive to buy initially ( approx $9 each ) but I am sure everyone remembers not so long ago when cfl's were also $9/each.

Another relatively inexpensive upgrade can be to add additional insulation to your attic ( we blew in an extra R25 into our attic 3 yrs ago for $1100 ). it paid for itself long ago, cutting back both on heat & airconditioning.

People also tend to forget about their unfinished basement. You can lose 30% of your home's heat through uninsulated basement/garage walls. It doesn't cost that much to do.

There are a lot of inexpensive small things you can do to your home to save you money in the long run. They do not have to be done all at once. Pick a few out to do per year. Every little bit helps the world be a bit greener & your wallet too

There are so many energy efficient solutions to conventional products out there but consumers are often overwhelmed about what makes the most sense (And cents) for them.

A lot of green products will save energy and ultimately money for your household but there are two in particular that are extremely inexpensive and make an enormous impact on your monthly bills: Faucet aerators and compact fluorescent lamps.

Faucet aerators and low-flow showerheads can save a household as much as fifty percent on  their water bill. Not only will they help preserve our environment but they will also save you a bundle on your water bill: these savings will pay for your faucet aerators and low-flow showerheads within the first few months.

Even though a lot of consumers have converted to compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), you'd be surprised how many have not. Not only do CFLs require far less energy to operate (They use about 1/5 of the energy a normal light bulb uses) they also last much longer than conventional light bulbs (Approximately six to ten times as long). Home depot currently sells a two pack for just under six dollars, they are more expensive to buy but they easily pay for themselves over the course of their lifetime.  Not to mention light fixtures that are painstaking to access will require less maintenance.

It's always a great thing to make lifestyle choices that will help decrease our carbon footprint, and it's even better when we can do that while saving money at the same time.

I didn't know the had the LED lights out.  I also was disappointed when using the "energy saving" bulbs of a few years ago.  The just didn't put out the light, and it wasn't a true white, but an yellow-orange light.

Hi! Greg, Yes, I agree.  Initially the CFL bulbs were slow to come on, gave off an orange glow.  They have come along way over the last 6 yrs.  I am sure we will see similar things with LEDs in the near future. :)
