 watertower

Like a transformer in slow motion, the new Forest Lake water tower began to take on its final shape this past week. The construction process is quite a sight to see! Piece by piece concave metal is lifted into place and welded to the base, creating the "bowl". This past spring the original old "tin-man" type water tower was removed from its place along Lake St. The new tower is located near the compost site just off of Broadway.

Teri, like Chris I have never seen a tower in the making.  I guess I never thought about the work that went in to making one.

That tower must be huge!!   (I'm judging by the size of the crane at the top in comparison to the body of the tower)   Thanks for showing us the picture of it Teri.

Gary--I kept forgetting my camera when the well was being drilled. There were two cranes holding up the piece in the center for a few weeks. Watching the pieces being welding into place was really eyeopening!

Teri - I have been watching a water tower be built in Rogers and it is a fascinating process. The thing that amazes me is that they look OLD while being built and then brand new after being painted.

Lindsey--It does look pretty bad while under construction doesn't it? When they paint this things it is pretty amazing to see too...They wrap them in a giant baggie to keep the paint from flying all over. Thanks for your comments!

Really? I'd love to see the painting part? How do they get that big a baggie? I'm so intrigued!

Lindsey--The painted one this summer in Blaine near 10 and 65. I didn't see it everyday as we only go periodically. But I think them have some sort of a frame that is installed. It looked like a giant bag or parachute bunched up at the top. The next time it was draped around like a shower curtain. Then the tower was all repainted. As they are certain to paint the one in Forest Lake, I will watch to see if it is done the same way.
