What you can't see can hurt.  Heating ducts that run through unheated spaces can be the source of significant heat loss and can reduce the comfort of your home.  A quick check can show if the ducts are insulated and if there are any leaks as well.  Repairing leaks and insulating the ducts can save energy and on home heating and cooling costs.
