Forest Lake Skyscape Construction Continues

FLWatertowerResidents and visitors alike do a double take as they pass through Forest Lake, Minnesota this December as construction continues on the new water tower.

Though the photo is not strikingly different from the original I posted last week, if you look closely there are some marked differences. Note the yellow appendage to the tank bowl. Yes, folks that is a ladder. No fear of heights allowed when working on this project. Can you even imagine taking a hike up that ladder? Yikes.

 FLWatertower

Before the 12 inches plus of  snow that made skiers and snowmobilers alike shout in exuberant exclamation hit Forest Lake this weekend, I snapped a shot of one of the huge sections on the ground that was being prepared to be lifted into place for the top of the tower. See the edge of it coming up near the crane? Hopefully, I will be in town when one of the two giant sections is raised into place. Of course, I think with all of the snow, it will be a day or two until it is dug out.

Sally--I don't think they have to be that acrobatic. I think they climb up from the black platform and look toward the ground as they go up the inside steps of the ladder toward that yellow basket. We drove by today but it didn't look different. We did see someone walking around on the inside near the pump though.

I wonder if they have a harness attaching them to the ladder.  I would be afraid of falling off but then I don't do heights well.  I'm with Sally it looks like they would be climbing upside down.

Teri, It's quite a hike up there, that's for sure.  I know I wouldn't do it but there are certainly some hearty, wonderful souls out there!

Teri - Boy, you could not pay me enough to climb that ladder. I have a major fear of highs. I'll just let Susie do it. : )

Marchel--I think there is room for them to walk like steps between the base and yellow ladder to a platform. I can't imagine hanging on the outside of the ladder...But looking down through the rungs wouldn't be fun either!
