 O Little Town of Bethlehem

Tomorrow morning there will be a settlement just a few blocks up from the Moravian Church, academy and Main St. Campus of Moravian College in the little town of Bethlehem, PA. The home is a lovely 19th Century edifice with  converted rental space within the main house.  The appraisal for the property came in late and short of the agreed upon selling price. At 2 PM today all mayhem broke loose among agents, lenders, buyers and sellers. No one wanted to take ownership of the shortfall. It is not an extraordinary event these days to be faced with such a dilemma ~ given the current fall in market prices ~ and certainly given the location, a historic street ~ there was due cause to fling blame at the appraiser ~ given that he was from outside of town, and perhaps shortsighted on the peculiar exceeding value of homes on Market St. What does the buyer agent do to upset the logjam and get all parties moving toward a happy ending? She offers to cut her commission ~ in the spirit of giving at the season of giving. By 5 PM all parties were contributors ~ though within the 3 hour time frame it appeared that home would go back on the market and everyone would be faced with heartbreaking loss. This blog is written to raise to our consciousness the need to be givers not takers so that we can all sit down at the table together and rejoice in our mutual good fortune.

I will come back tomorrow to report on the general atmosphere of this ensuing settlement - the gestures, the faces, and the love that ultimately outwits greed.

All you need is love, my friends, more love.
