KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Two soldiers from the Knoxville-based 278th National Guard Combat Team will be honored Saturday morning for going beyond the call of duty in Iraq.

1ST Lieutenant Robert Hancock and Sergeant First Class Richard Stooksbury will receive the Bronze Star For Valor during a ceremony in Lenoir City.

The soldiers are receiving the honor for their efforts during an ambush and major firefight in Iraq two years ago.

"We were on a mission looking for weapons and we were ambushed by a group of Iraqi soldiers. They were waiting for us and attacked us," said Lt. Hancock.

Hancock says though he's proud of the award, he feels everyone in his unit should be recognized for their actions.

"I'm very honored to get it but I think about all the guys I was there with that day and it's really the brotherhood we had from being there that matters and counts to me," said lt. Hancock.

it's nice to hear something good about our great soliders.

someone sent me a beauitful poem..i wanted to cry

Standing At The Door by epoet

Sadly thinking
how to treat
the wounds
I'm sure to inflict.

Praying for peace
and getting only
a saddened heart.

The only tribute
I can give
is this poem.

His memory
will never fade
from my mind.

His lust
for life
never replaced.

His joy
in his family
and his friends,
never forgotten.

He will
live on
'till the end of time.

He is
one of us,
the unforgotten vet.
