Prioritizing the things that you have to get done is important, otherwise a lot of time can get wasted on the things that really aren't that important or that you can do at a later time when other things that are more "administrative".
Many people like to number their tasks that they are working on and work hard at it until that number is done. Colors are also used.
I find that the mix of both works well for me because many times I have something colored that is high-priority, however, the numbers let me know which one to work on first.
Choose what works best for you, yet as Larry The Cable Guy says:
