First Time Home Buyers - Shop for your Agent First!!
I was inspired to write this post after reading a recent post by Evelyn McCorkle entitled, “My First Home! Welcome to Homeownership”. Buying that very first home can be an overwhelming experience for most First Time Home Buyers. It’s probably the biggest purchase they have ever made, and you just have to wonder how high their excitement level will be. Being of a scientific nature, I know I have often tried things on my own without seeking any help or assistance, but when it comes to buying a home, Buyers should shop for a real estate agent first.

Real Estate AgentFirst Time Home Buyers have many questions, and I have prepared a “Buyer’s Presentation” to address many of these questions and concerns. I have even presented some of my First Time Home Buyers with the book, “Your First Home”. All of my clients were thrilled to have a book of this caliber to help them understand the home buying process. However, the book cannot replace the experience and knowledge that an agent brings to the table. Agents will not only help buyers get off on the right track, but will save them a lot of valuable time, and money. Yes, I have heard often that “Time is Money”. How much do you value your time?

Seeking the counsel of an agent before you go shopping for that first home may also save buyers a lot of frustrations and disappointments. Your agent will be able to direct you to a mortgage broker for loan pre-approval, which helps you to know who much home you can buy. Thus saving you a lot of time and frustrations. So, Shop for your Agent First!!

Jerry I think hiring an agent first is a smart idea since the real estate agent the key member of the homebuying team that helps pull everything together.  No other member of the homebuying team has the level of involvement as the agent.

Great news for you!  Picking an un-knowledgeable agent can be big trouble for the entire deal team.  I know, I have been part of that distasteful scenario before.

Oh so suggested Jerry!  It is very important that those seeking to buy their first or 10th home seek out the advice of an agent before embarking on that journey.  Many walk into an open house or a new builder and think that they are getting the best representation when they really aren't getting any at all.

You first home presentation will probably answer many questions that buyers didn't even know they had :)!

Jerry,  If only we could inject this very sound advice into the DNA of all home buyers ... they simply don't know what they don't know.  Hiring a professional saves time, money and a lot of frustration.  <<suggested>>

Jerry,  Buying a home is the largest investment people ever make.  They should certainly seek the help of a professional.  The ones who try to do it without representation baffle my mind.  Providing useful information to thos first time home buyers is crucial.

Jerry, there is a saying that "a man of experience will never be held captive by a man of theory." No matter how much anyone has read about buying a home on the internet or in a book, working with an experienced agent will make a difference and possibly a huge difference. Yesterday, I looked at a home with huge damage - the neighbors said the seller tried to get the builder to fix it (it had been new construction) but they would not. My first thought was, "I bet they did not have a Realtor representing them."

Hi Kristine. I certainly appreciate that Vote of confidence for the San Antonio area. I don't understand why many want to go searching without an agent's help or advice.

Hi Brenda, Buyers already have the deck packed against them when they walk into those Open Houses or New Home Builders without an agent. Hopefully, many will read this post, and Shop for an Agent first.

Thanks, Kathleen for the Suggest. Agents are here to help many home buyers, but they don't always seen the "light" until it's to late sometimes. Hopefully, they will turn around and shop for an agent first.

Yes, Sharon. I believe that an experienced agent is "Priceless". It baffles me when buyers try to go it alone without an agents help or advice.
