Mike Ferry: Why Coaching Doesn't Work for Some People - Part 1 of 3

If you are an agent who is involved in some type of Real Estate coaching program or are thinking about becoming involved in a coaching program ... the question as to why coaching sometimes DOES NOT WORK should be addressed. Knowing the reasons why some agents fail will actually help you achieve success. The goal is to learn from these challenges in your own coaching experience.

We started the coaching industry in Real Estate in the fall of 1988 and through today have had over 100,000 agents go through different levels of coaching with my company. We have seen brand new licensees do 20 to 25 transactions within 18 months of starting coaching, we have seen good producers become superstars within a couple of years of starting coaching, and we have seen superstars become mega producers within a short period of time of joining our coaching.

At the same time, we have seen far too many people join our programs and never get the kind of results they expected or wanted. Because I've had the good fortune of more than 37 years doing the work I'm doing today, having done more than 5,000 Real Estate seminars/presentations, and having worked directly with thousands of the 100,0000 agents we have had in coaching, I can tell you very clearly why coaching works for some agents and does not work for others.

Let me start with saying that I believe that each person who joins coaching joins for the same reasons ... to increase productivity ... to increase income ... to learn and understand the sales business ... to learn the scripts, dialogues and techniques necessary to succeed ... to develop more confidence in themselves ... and to learn to deal with prospects, buyers and sellers more effectively. These are just a few of the many reasons why people join coaching.

The most important thing that I have learned about working with agents is that there is always a very good reason why an agent joins coaching and the challenge we face as a coaching company is keeping THAT reason FOREMOST in the agent’s mind while the coaching process takes place.

In part 2 of Why Coaching Doesn't Work for Some People, I'll write out the specific reasons for this so you will know what to avoid. Then, in part 3, I'll give you the solution with the reasons why so many people thrive while in our coaching programs.

I'll be looking forward to reading Parts II and III of this post. Sometimes it is hard for me to be truly focused when getting pulled in so many different directions. My days are never the same - but I love a challenge & look forward to working with my customers/clients.
