New To Blogging?  Where Are You From?

There are many Active Rainers that as soon as we see their comment or post, we instantly associate them with their town or state.  Name a state and chances are we've got someone (or a whole bunch of someones) mentally tied to that state....and a few friends north of the border if we needs some Canadians too :)

And the wonderful thing about having that mental association is that if we have referral business these people who have clearly built up their service area brand are top of mind.  But that top of mind only exists because they've made it BLATANTLY apparent either by many Localism posts advocating their area or by a comment signature block that tells us WHERE they work.  You've GOT to make it easy for people to build that association because most people aren't going to go too far out of their way to ID you. 

If you leave a comment and the only description present is "ABC Realty", that doesn't help me with a name or to build a geographic association.  If we ONLY put RE/MAX Elite in our comment signature, you'd have no clue where we worked.

And in our case, Ohio is a big state.  But just letting people know we're in Ohio isn't enough, we need to give them a pretty good idea where in Ohio we work.  So here's how we solved the problem of letting people know exactly where we work when they read our comments:


Now HOW did we do that?  It's actually pretty easy.

• Go to your MY HOME PAGE. 
  
• Under your left hand side photo where you see My Profile (Edit) click on (Edit)  That brings up a screen to enter First Name, Last Name, Company. 
  
• Now here's the "trick".  Don't fill out the blocks that way.  They're free form blocks, you can type in whatever you want, but they do have character quantity limitations.  Here's how we filled out ours:

 

So fill out your three fields in a way that CLEARLY associates YOU and YOUR AREA.  And don't forget to click SAVE PROFILE when you're done!

And that's our Newbie Advice tip for helping associate your name and your service area.  Let people know where you work, or someone else just might get the referral that could have been yours.
