Realtors.....Doctor Jekyll And Mister Hyde?

Realtors are we trained to have a split personality? After being told I should get into blogging to get more business I decided to see what it was all about. It does make sense to me and I definitely think it’s a great avenue for realtors. What I have come to notice after reading others blogs is that when we post blogs to the public we make everything sound so fluffy, great, and lovely.  Failing to mention any bumps or bruises you may encounter depending on what side of the fence you stand on (buyer or seller) and how deep your pockets are.  Now I will admit we have a few realtors that tell it like it is, but the majority will not.

Us realtor will then hit the “members only”(not open to the public) button on a post and type some of the realest sentences I have ever read. Well I feel as though people are reading these public post and calling realtors with wild expectations. Then realtors turn and at look at our phones as if the potential clients are crazy. That’s usually when you have to start the “back down to earth process” because Johnny  So and So said he could sell your home for 350k knowing the appraiser is going to say 265k. Now I’m not saying we should all log into Facebook, Twitter, Active Rain, Linkedin and scare the heck out of people but we could do a better job of giving people realistic current market conditions.  For instance we all know inventory is at an all-time low.  If this sales price is fairly low for your area most likely your clients that are buyers are going to be dealing with multiple offers, Foreclosures that look like hell and are “as is”,  and if your client has a FHA loan you as the realtor are shaking in your slacks/skirt s because he or she knows the appraiser could call out many things that need to be rectified before you can go to settlement.

I have an idea……the next time one of us realtors decides to give a dose of what’s going on in today’s industry lets hit the “public” post button instead of the “private” so we all know what’s going on not just us realtors…….Oh and by the way this post will be public.

Good morning Anthony,

Very true, we have to tell the public what is really happening in our industry - because the media only spins what they want heard!

I like your post Anthony... "tell it like it is"  has always been an issue to agents when it comes to the public... not sure why but I see it every day with my own crew... Good luck in the Rain...

Truth be told, who knows.

Conflicting data which may be totally irrelevant for your area.

Hope spings ahead of reality.

We need real change.

Part of the beauty of the Member's Only is it allows agents to vent. Though you must still be careful what is posted online, there is more freedom than with a "public" post.

But I do agree that we should paint an accurate picture of the market.

Doug I agree. I have vented through Member's Only but I  see some Member's Only post that could very well be public. Just my little ol' opinion though.

Hi Anthony.  You said that well.  I hope to see more of you in the rain.  Take some time to read the University tab...there is so much more to know and you'll learn.
