King Kamehameha Day

As a few of you may know we have been blogging a new holiday every day. Today June 11th happens to be a National Celebration more than an actual holiday.

Today is National King Kamehameha Day. Many people do not realize that this day exists or what it even means. King Kamehameha was a Hawaiian monarch who successfully declared the islands of Hawaii a unified Kingdom in 1810.

To this day King Kamehameha Day is still celebrated with a state wide floral parade. After the parade takes place there is a traditional draping ceremony that dates back to 1901. This draping ceremony consists of draped several leis upon the Kin Kamehameha statue.

Now that you have learned a bit of Hawaiian history be sure to tell your friends, and subscribe to get our daily holiday updates!

I knew about the king but when I saw you in NH I was curious as to how you were going to tie this all together. Good post and thanks
