UV Filtration
In many cases wells have bacteria. 60% of the time wells can be cleaned out with a chlorination treatment, however some groundwater may naturally be contaminated, and will need a permanent filter to protect drinking water. UV Filters are the best filtration system when it comes to killing bacteria, and is easily installed and managed. However you must make sure you change the bulb on a yearly basis.
How it works
UV Filters are pretty simple in design. The radiation initiates a photochemical reaction that destroys the genetic information contained in the DNA. The bacteria lose their reproductive capability and are destroyed Once the filter is installed the water runs through the filter and into the pipes of your house, the light is so powerful it sterilizes all water that passes through it.
How long do they last?
UV Filtration systems are designed to be permanent. However, the bulb themselves have to be changed. After a year the bulb begins to lose its strength and will not work effectively.
Before installing a UV Filtration be sure to get your water tested to make sure a UV Filter is necessary, as they can get pricey. Contact a local well company or filtration specialist to ensure you are drinking bacteria free water.
