Historic Downtown Chatham BIA Hits a Home Run

With First Fashion Night Out

The Historic Downtown Chatham BIA were the sponsors of last weeks First Fashion Night Out. I was told by one of the members that Sonya Roe owner of Sonya Roe Jewellers was the driving force behind the event. There were 20 merchants in the Downtown area who participated in this Global Celebration of Fashion. Similar events took place around the world last night, Sept 6 and Chatham certainly did not take a back seat to anyone. Each store hosted a special Theme Party for attendees with giveaways, gourmet appetizers and cocktails. The atmosphere was exciting.

The evening began with a Haut Couture Fashion show at 6 P.M. at the Armouries. Watch the Video There was such a fantastic response that the doors had to be closed due to the facility reaching its full capacity. Those who did not get in for the show refused to have their spirits dampened. They just headed for the downtown and got a head start on those of us at the Armories. The Downtown was buzzing. Chatham-Kent really turned out and it was a joy to see. The BIA and the merchants who participated as well as those who helped in any way put in a lot of effort and it was rewarded which was a joy to see.

An Outdoor cafe, a Kid's Rock Concert and Irish Dancers from the Cornell Irish School of Dance located on King St.are just a few of the things attendees were enjoying. King St. was closed to traffic and tables were set up strategically along the street. People were shopping, eating, drinking and enjoying the spectacular evening.Historic Downtown Chatham King St.

The weather co-operated and I for one did not want the evening to end. The organizers thought of everything! There was even a shuttle to take people to Gentry Manor since it is not located on King St. Judging from the crowd we encountered there, it did not deter anyone and the place was full.

Congratulations to all those involved and to everyone who turned out. If you were not there, you really missed something and I for one will not miss next year and I will certainly make sure I spread the word.
