It is hard these days to find cash or get a loan (without paying a high interest rate) when you want to do some improvement projects to your home. Most cities and counties actually have programs of either low interest, no interest, or deferred payment loans available to those that qualify. Many do not know about these programs available to them.
Washington County and the Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation have teamed up with GMHC's Housing Resource Center to provide loans up to $18,000. These loans are 0% and do not have to be paid back until the home is sold, title transferred, or the home is refinanced.
This is a great opportunity to be able to do things to your home like paint, electrical, finishing off your basement. Loans are available to those who are at or below 80% of the area median income levels (ex. about $65,000 for family of 4). The home has to have a estimated market value under $242,850. Right now all owner occupied homes in Washington County with exceptions of Woodbury, Marine on St. Croix, and Grey Cloud Island are eligible.
