7 Tips To Find The Right Real Estate Agent

It’s important to make the right decision first before you sign the dotted line. Contracts are legally binding so it’s pretty important to review and be clear about all the details before you engage in a formal relationship with your real estate agent. For most individuals, your home will always be you most important and most expensive asset so caution should always be taken.

Below are 7 top questions/tips to considering while interviewing your potential real estate agent.

1. How long have you been a real estate agent?

This is a good question to start off the interview. You need to be briefed about the agents’ expertise and overall experience. Yes, sometimes a new agent can be a real benefit to you because they are working extra hard to earn their stripes and become successful…but…it’s also wise to have a veteran real estate agent who has already learned the market, legal issues and all the things to look out for in regards to negotiation, pricing and marketing. Your best bet is tointerview at least 3 real estate agents before making a decision on whom you’d like to work with.

2. How often will you be getting back to me with updates/feedback?

This is also very, very important! There are so many people who felt “sold” during the initial presentation from a real estate agent to only then feel helpless right after they listed. You need to know up front how the communication will occur, who will be responding to you, and how often you will be receiving updates once your home is placed on the market. .

3. Can I see some examples of your past marketing materials?

It’s very important for your property to be marketed professionally. You need wide angled, colorful photographs and well written ads. Sloppy writing skills, unflattering photos or video, or online mistakes are not going to help you sell your property. When buyers look at your home online or in person, they need to leave feeling excited about what they read and saw and there should be a consistency between what they experience in person from what they have seen online or in print.

4. Why makes you different from all the other real estate agents out there?

If we can't answer question # 4 with a definitive value proposition that sets us apart...then we are just a commodity in the seller's eyes and lowest price wins...which may NOT be a win for the seller.
