East Shoreham is located on the north shore of Long Island, touching the Long Island Sound. The Shoreham area shares the zip code of 11786 with the village of Shoreham, New York. East Shoreham is referred to by the locals as "Shoreham,” while the village is called "Shoreham Village.”
Shoreham Village was established in the early 1900's as a summer community and incorporated in 1913. The hills of Shoreham village made it necessary to construct a system of streets. This would stop the washouts which has caused so many difficulties for the scenic community. The village was incorporated as an entity to issue bonds to cover the cost of the work. Shoreham Village was known as the smallest village in New York State and the first to have concrete roads throughout its village. The village remains a rustic place of hilly foliage-rich streets, over-looking the Long Island Sound. The beauty of the village area can’t be described in words, but must be seen to appreciate.
The area of Shoreham, East Shoreham, Village of Shoreham and the neighboring Wading River, form the Shoreham-Wading River School District to educate the children of the community.
