We have (most of us, anyway) lost pets....

Please read this and think about your pet and how you felt when it went to the Rainbow Bridge.

Debbie has lost two in a short amount of time.  And, she is so giving.

I hope that you stop by her blog and comment on this one.

Having Just Lost A Beloved Family Pet This Poem Means So Much. After ten years, we said goodbye to Chaco for the last time. Chaco was a large mixed breed puppy that I adopted from the local animal shelter just over 10 years ago. His illness was sudden and the vet coudn't determine why he became paralyzed. But I know if Chaco could write...this is what he would leave his family. The picture below was taken the morning we had to put Chaco to sleep. He got one last bone.

With Easter just around the corner, this is also a great reminder...if you are going to get a cute Easter Bunny or chick for someone, remember that is a living creature that needs to be cared for and is a commitment. This isn't something to give just for the sake of giving, and with no thought on how you will care for the pet in the future.

When humans die they prepare a will in order to leave their home and everything they own to all those they love.

If I were able to write I would also make out such a will.

To a poor, lonely, full of longing stray I would leave my happy home, my food bowl, my cozy bed, my soft pillow, my toys and the beloved lap. The gently stroking hand, the loving voice, the place I had in someone’s heart and the love which, at the end, will help me towards a peaceful, painless end while being held in loving arms.

And when I die, then please don’t say:

“Never again will I have a dog, the loss is much too painful.”

Find yourself a lonely, unloved dog and give it my place in your heart.

That is my bequest. The love I leave behind is all that I have to give.

I know the Delta County Humane Society, Friends of Cedaredge Animal Control and CAWS, all in Delta County, Colorado, all have animals looking for loving homes. If you are looking for a pet, please check out what these great non profit organizations have available. Here's the link for the Delta County No Kill Humane Society. This great organization would use your time and donations. http://www.deltacountyhumanesociety.org/
