Blowing Rock Ice Storm - Some Pretty Pictures

To my delight, Friday morning the Boone - Blowing Rock area was greeted by the beautiful remains of a brutal ice storm. Many were left with fallen trees and power outages. Most people I talked to were  unaffected though ASU did cancel classes. These are just a few pictures that I was able to snap before all of the ice melted mid-day. It finally warmed up a little today but not enough to forget that there's a decent 2-3 good months of winter yet to come. Skiers and Snowboarders are in luck! Looks like you've got a pretty good season ahead of you! As For the rest of us, bundle up, relax, put on a pot of chili and enjoy the slow pace of this laid-back time of year.

Here in New Jersey we only got rain and lots of it.  You are having more of a winter in North Carolina as we are up here.  I Googled the storm as I am moving south of Asheville soon (already have my place - sorry I can't use your services).   Thanks for letting me see it up front and personal.

Thanks for commenting. That's crazy we're getting harsher weather than in New Jersey, what's going on in the world? I'm sure you'll enjoy Asheville-it's a great town. Let me know if you're up my way and need advice on places to stay, eat etc!

Hi Meris,
Nice photos, ice storms do leave everything looking pretty but the power outages are not my idea of fun.  I'm ready for spring but guess we do have a few more weeks of to wait.

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks, glad you liked the pictures. I sure do envy you right now being on the verge of spring. It won't warm up for good here till late April at least, but being from the coast I can sure appreciate the cooler summers we get up here.

We had an ice storm last week as well. It was beautiful to look outside and see, but you don't want to drive with 1/4 inch of ice on the roads.

Great pictures, Meris.  I remember going to the Blowing Rock area with my family as a kid.  These are beautiful.

OMG! I can't imagine anything like that! It's too flipping hot here. We didn't even get a winter this year. It stinks when we don't even get a break before it gets ridiculously hot again =/

But your photos are beautiful... through my computer screen :P

Don and Carol - Thanks for your comments. I'm waiting for spring to really peak here and I'll go out and get some more pictures to post. I think I've got another week or two.

Hi Lisa - I understand how you feel. I grew up at the beach so I can definitely appreciate what we've got. It did take me a little bit to get used to the winters though.
