Realtors need to respond to the Media's negitivity

By
Real Estate Agent with Sassone Realty

As Realtors it is time to take action and battle the negitivity by the media. It is damaging our market, our credibility as professionals and our pocketbooks! This current market is a market of opportunity... for Buyers and Investors. The borrowing rates are adjusting downward and are still at some of the lowest rates in 30 years. The pricing of properties are in the Buyers favor, and you have something to choose from now. You don't have to settle! There are opportunities in new construction homes that are already built. Builders have and are open to a variety of incentives and buy-downs.

We need to promote ourselves as professionals, think out of the box. Promote new and innovative ways to advance our business and the Real Estate opportunities to the Media and our customers.

Any thoughts on how to do this? I think most of us know the negitivity is whats hurting but don't have the means to do anything.

I have a thought on how to do this.  It take education. We must do free seminar, newspaper articles in those articles we need to include testimonials, blogs about the subject for public view, radio show discussing the market.  A change in the media when not happen without our assistance, so we must speak out and let the consumer know yes there are issues, but there is bright light at the end of the tunnel.  In addition, it starts with the realtor having faith in what they are doing to make a living.  Let's face it real estate is the fiber of economics in the US that is why with all the problems that the housing industry is experiencing it is having a negative effect on economic.

One way is to be speaking to every contact you meet, that this is a good market. Promote it in your marketing. Think out of the box and create a marketing opportunity that may be press release worthy to your local and regional news media.

You have it right. There are opportunities for buyers who are in the market and we have to tell the world, wel at least our local area!

Well it might sound simple, but at a recent large company education seminar the biggest paper in the state was there with a booth.  They wanted me to enter my card in for a free ad.   I told them I was not interested.  When they asked why, I said: "when you start to cover the advantages in the real estate market at this time, instead of all this negativity, then I will support your paper.

Newspaper Real Estate ads fund a large portion of the newspaper, I personally will boycott them and have stopped my ad buys until they give me a good reason to think that people will get past the doom and gloom on the first page and go on to the real estate ads.

I have lots of other ways to market my properties, the newspaper is just one and not all that effective.
