5th Annual Maine Restaurant Week - March 1 - March 10, 2013
Today is the kickoff of the 5th annual Maine Restaurant Week. Maine Restaurant Week began in 2009 to celebrate Maine's independent and locally-owned restaurants with the goal of boosting business during the traditionally slow winter season. Participating restaurants offer 3-course, special gourmet "Prix Fixe" (or "Fixed Price) meals. This year the prices are $22.00, $32.00 or $42.00, depending on the restaurant, and several restaurants are also offering 3-course lunches for $15.00.
If you missed the kick off event this morning - The Incredible Breakfast Cook-off - there are still 2 more events coming up: the Fire and Ice Cook-Off and 20th Annual Polar Bear Dip on Saturday, March 9 at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville and The Signature Event! Cocktail & Dessert Competition on Sunday, March 10 at Prime Mercedes Benz in Scarborough. This year the proceeds from these events benefit the United Way of Greater Portland and the Alfond Youth Center.
There are 79 restaurants participating this year ranging from South Portland to Bangor, and several hotels are offering special package rates during the event. To keep up to date with what's going on when and where, you can download the free MRW app from iTunes.
