Dr. StrangeMortgage...or "How I learned to love paperwork"

Yes, the times are changing!  I didn't have enough room for the full paraphrase of the Stanley Kubrick satire, but the theory is the same.  Gone are the days of cruising through a mortgage application and "winging it."  So embrace it! When applying for a mortgage, one thing for certain is that you are going to have to provide a lot of paperwork.  And, in many cases, you will have to send in even more paperwork as the process continues and you get closer to closing.  What I am doing now is prepping my customers to expect phone calls along the way for updated paperwork, such as latest paystubs or most recent bank statements.  Yes, it's a PITA, but it's the world we live in.  After the initial paperwork has been submitted, a lot of the follow-up is done from internal loan processors...I let my customers know to expect phone calls periodically from the people internally.  Managing expectations.

Yes, paperwork is here to stay.  So we can fight it or learn to love it.  What's it worth? If you're buying a house, you have no choice but to jump in. If you're considering refinancing, you can see what you'll save each month or see how many years you can shave off your loan.  THAT'S WORTH DEALING WITH EXTRA PAPERWORK!

See you around, smiling.

I learned in my first professional job to love the paperwork.  I worked for the state and I needed som information on a client from the Social Security Administraion.  Ususally they would tell me that day they said there was a form to fill out in quadruplicate.  I found the form and filled in out, since I need inofrmation on about 125 clients I filled out the form for them as well.  So two days later I sent him the 125 forms and I reminded him that his department's regulation required that they all be researched and return 48 hours, as I pointe out to him.

I never had to give him any paperwork after that so I learned to love paperwork.
