It reminds me of real estate deals where buyers and sellers negotiate over what most of society would say is an insignificant detail in the grand scheme of things or negotiate the repair or replacement of an item that is covered in homeowner's insurance or a home warranty they're getting within the contract or before closing, anyhow.
Did we lose sight of the goal? Did we get stuck at the defender? Do we just need a little bit of coaching, unaware there are plenty of other and perhaps even easier solutions? Sometimes the best negotiation is the one with just a little bit of fancy footwork.
