I know what you feel.   Sometimes I cringe when I answer the phone.  I also know that the phone calls is what we need to have happen.  Sometimes the calls have no meaning and are just a waste of time.  You have to follow them through to make sure there is not a pearl hidden in that call.

I hate sales calls, I hate them!

I am a Realtor and we’re supposed to always answer our phones right? I don’t answer my phone when I’m with a client, or on the phone or after a certain time at night. But when I do answer the phone I want the call to be productive and interesting, and not something that is going to waste my time or cause me to miss a more important call.

That’s why I hang up on sales calls. Because I ain't buying what you’re selling, I just got a call from a number in Oregon, suspicious, not really I hear from people all over America. I am in a part of the country, North Carolina where a lot of people are either moving here or are starting to think about it. I received a request for information on my website from a lady in Oregon recently.

So this guy says “Hey Dave, (they always try the, we’re best buds approach) yeah listen I’m on your website (pause, to get me excited) right!” I am a Facebook Specialist...Click! This is my immediate response as soon as I hear,  we’re with Facebook, Google, Trulia, Twitter, Zillow or my favourite “are you accepting any more leads?” Or “ we need an agent to handle all the buyers moving into your zipcode” By the way with Google Analytics I can see in realtime who is on my site and guess what, there was no one from Oregon on my site today.

I tried ignoring any weird looking numbers or states that don’t normally call me but that’s not fair to the people who genuinely want information about the area that I know about, so now I hang up, and it feels good because all these snakeoil salesmen are selling is a bag of goods and they will lie to your face to take your money.

There is no magic formula, there is no list of anxious buyers waiting to buy homes in your area. You want people to call you, give them a reason to call you, it’s hard work and it can take hours and hours of work before you even make a dent. But save your money, when these clowns call promising pots of gold and premium agent status, remember you are just a number and if you don’t take the bait they have fifty other agents to call today. Spend your money wisely, get a good website either do it yourself or pay a reputable company to do it, (I know one), then you have to constantly add content, keep it fresh, interesting, put yourself in the shoes of the people you are trying to connect with.

I get them everyday. Someone trying to sell me the latest greatest thing to get more buyers or so called "leads".

I get probably 5-6 a day. Those identified get tagged as solicitors. Any calls from elsewhere go directly to VM to first be identified. I call back potential clients and solicitors don't get to give me their spiels. They get to talk to the hand.

I am so tired of these sales calls.  I just have to keep in mind that they are trying to make a living also.

But I can not accept them all.
