Surprising Hotel Fees To Be Aware Of The Next Time You TravelThe next time you leave your Allen home and check into a hotel, be aware of these surprising new hotel fees that are making their way onto guests' folios. According to a report from the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies, the number of fees and surcharges being added to hotel bills has reached an all-time high, and hotels are charging for a variety of things that are surprising guests. Here's a closer look!

  • Early Check-In: Getting the keys to your hotel room before the published check-in time will require a charge of as much as $50 at some hotels now.
  • Early Check-Out: And if you leave early, you could be charged anywhere from $50 to the cost of a night's stay if you leave a day or more before your original check-out date.
  • Minibar Restocking: In addition to paying five times as much as you would at a convenience store for a sleeve of Pringles (the small one, mind you), some hotels are now charging patrons to restock that very canister.
  • Automatic Gratuities: When you check-out, check the bill closely before you pull out ones to tip the bellman and valet parkers with. Many hotels are adding automatic gratuity for their services, including housekeeping and bellman tips.
  • Gym Fee: Trying to be good by working out? Make sure you're not paying for it! Some hotels charge between $5 to $40 a day for the gym, something that's billed as an amenity on their website.
  • Baggage Holding: Maybe you can't check-in quite yet, or you need to be out of your room but aren't quite ready to load up the car. If you're planning to have the bellmen hold your bags, you could be hit with a per bag fee to stash them away.

Another fee we are seeing a lot these days, especially in Las Vegas, is what they call a RESORT FEE.  It is their fee for having what used to be FREE internet access and a gym access fee, if they have one.
