A first hand experience

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices The Preferred Realty
In an effort to stimulate excitement in the fourth quarter, I held a contest in the office for agents who ratified a contract(s) during the last couple months of 2007.

We had a strong push and a nice amount of agents qualified for the winnings.  What did they get for their efforts?  A free trip to Atlantic City, which, we went on this last weekend.

But that’s not the story.

The story is that last night, in AC, I received a call from my 20 week pregnant wife that my 4 1/2 year-old had a spiked fever along with a growing stye on her eye.  So, even though it was 2 a.m. the feeling that I was abandoning my duty as father and husband filled me so I decided to drive back to DC right then.

Being a three and a half hour drive it would get me home sometime around six-ish, but it was what I needed to do.

But that’s not the story either.  Two of my agent, Jay Haverty and Joey Silverstein, volunteered to ride back with me so I wouldn’t be alone.

These two agents, without asking or prompting gave up their fun and their night so I cold get home to my family.

I always knew I was very lucky to manage an office of agents who I considered to be the personification of class and caring, but to experience it first hand blew me away.

Thanks, Jay.  Thanks, Joey.  For giving me the kind of experience your clients receive all the time - that first class care doesn’t start and stop when a commission is involved.  Rather, it is the relationships we build that make all the difference.

Experiences like that make you believe that your job as a broker, manager, leader, training, and counselor are all worth it.  It will take a strong team to make it throught is real estate rut.  Keep up the great blog.
