Locals choice for fresh seafood on Hilton Head Island, SCSea Shack Entrance

I don't mean to offend any of the other fine eating establishments on Hilton Head since there are a myriad; and my disclaimer is that this is only my humble opinion, but when people ask me where to go I always say SEA SHACK!

WHERE IS IT?

Tucked away on 6 Executive Park Road, across from a short term rental company, next door to a bar on one side and a construction company on the other - and on the back side of a more upscale eatery, The Sea Shack takes a little bit of work to find.

WHAT IS THE MENU?

Fresh everything; from the difficult to find trigger fish, to mahi mahi, to shrimp, soft shell crab, tilapia, red snapper - you name it they have it IF it is in season. Your choices are fried, grilled, blackened and platters come with 2 sides and their terrific hushpuppies. Remember, mac & cheese is considered a vegetable around here so that's an option too if someone in you family doesn't like the collards that are always bubbling. Their sweet potato casserole/corn bread is a favorite as are the red beans and rice. If you feel the need to forego the sandwich or fried idea you can always get a fresh, crisp salad topped with a grilled whatever fish you want. I especially like the wasabi cucumber dressing!

HOW MUCH WILL I PAY?

It depends entirely on the cost of the fish at the moment but generally speaking prices for a full, very large portioned, meal are $9.95 to $16.95. Remember this includes 2 sides and the hushpuppies.

Sea Shack insideWHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

There really is none; though they do discourage you from just wandering in with your bathing suit and request that you have some kind of a cover up - and shoes. Other than that, there are no other requirements.

HINTS

This is a SMALL place - probably only seating 30 fairly comfortably inside with small tables along the front and 2 round picnic tables under umbrellas to the side. So, bottom line, come early in the summer or come late. This is not a fish market as well as a restaurant so if you were planning to buy a piece of fish and cook it at home forget that idea. It's simply a great place to get your fill of a good platter of fish!

Caroline,

This place sounds wonderful! When I lived/worked in Maine there was the Lobster Shack on the ocean front and everyone would line up for miles to get inside. They were as good as you've written up a review for this place!

You did a great job and it sounds like the business is a huge success!

Susan, I wish we had your fish selection here. We just do not seem to have the selection or the quality of fish eateries that you do.

Kathy - I'll bet it because the ocean is on the wrong side :-)  Meanwhile, I LOVE your new profile page - that's on my list of things to do this weekend. Looks like you totally mastered it - I hope I can make mine look even half as good as yours!
