A more effective elevator speech
I came across this post and thought it could be helpful to others as I've seen quite a few posts here about revamping elevator speeches. So, I'm passing this on!
Bob Bly has done it again - sent something in his morning email that I just have to share.
We've talked before about elevator speeches - and the need to convey exactly what you do in terms that just might make the person who asked "What do you do?" want to learn more.
I shared with you how I learned quickly not to say "I'm a copywriter" because people would instantly start telling me about a book or a song they wrote that needs to be copyrighted.
In my small town the word "copywriter" doesn't mean anything at all. (Actually, the concept of paying someone to write for you is so alien that people look at me like "You have to be kidding" when I make it clear what I do. But that's another story.)
So - After stumbling around trying to explain a few times, I worked on memorizing something like "I write marketing materials for real estate agents who want attract more clients and close more sales."
But today I learned that there's a better, more effective way to answer that question, and I'm already writing my new elevator speech in my head.
The first step in Bob's 3-step elevator speech formula is brilliant, because your answer will begin with a word that gets everyone's attention: "You." It will also require some thought, because you'll first have to identify a problem or concern that the majority of your clients share.
The video clip is only 2.25 minutes long, so take that two minutes for something that just might significantly expand your client list in the coming months.
Go here - the video clip is right at the top of the page...
(And no, this isn't an affiliate link and Bob hasn't asked me to promote his system. I simply think this elevator speech formula is brilliant, so wanted to share.)
