There is a community in the Sugar Land, TX (suburb of Houston) area that is building the first eco-friendly homes. It's called the Lakes of Williams Ranch. According to General Electric, Lakes of Williams Ranch is the first Hybrid Custom Home Community using solar power.
The houses are designed to use 20% less energy, 20% less water and reduce emissions by 20%. Unfortunately these homes are not cheap. These homes range from $500,000 to $2 million. Hopefully this will take hold and become affordable for the average home buyer.
