The Real Haunted Houses of the Lehigh Valley

I thought it would be fun to take a look at some real-life haunted houses in the Lehigh Valley in the spirit of Halloween.  I didn't know of any personally, so I did a little investigating of my own at DiscoverLehighValley.com to see what they knew. Lo and behold they have a page called Stay & Investigate that lists all kinds of haunted buildings in the valley. From tales of a girl that drowned in the Black Creek haunting the Historic Windsor Hall Inn, to the strange things that happen in room 932 of the Hotel Bethlehem (I'm too scared to look!).  Some of the places on this list are among my favorite watering holes, including the Buckeye Tavern and the Braveheart Pub in Hellertown.  I've seen people in both of these places who were 'moved by the spirits', but I never knew about the smell of frying bacon coming from the basement of the Buckeye or the mysterious unplugged jukebox playing at Braveheart!

My favorite is probably the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem. A building called the corpse house was reportedly right behind the museum.  According to the website, 'This is the house where the dead were kept for three days to be viewed and honored before being buried. While the dead were there, it is rumored that all mirrors were turned to face the wall because the first person to see their image in any of them would die within a year.'  That's scary stuff!

If you're looking for a new place to haunt, check out the Lehigh Valley's best place to look for new homes.  Some are even guaranteed to be Zombie-free!
