This is a great list for people living in any area. But ithoughtI wouldshare this with the residents of Bedford. Having something like this for any emergency is priceless and only takes a few minutes.

Time for the Annual New Year’s Resolutions….

This is the year I am actually going to do something very constructive.

I am making the GRAB AND GO KIT!      backpack

You, too, might think this will be a great idea, especially after you have suffered a fire, an earthquake, a tornado or hurricane.

Here is the process:

Find a secure, waterproof and fireproof container and add:

Copies of driver’s licenses or IDs of all family members

Copies of birth and marriage certificates

Passports and/or RECENT photos of all family members

Lists of prescriptions taken for each family member

List of important contacts…your phone may not work!

Social Security cards…the originals should not be in your wallet anyway.

Bank account numbers, addresses, phone numbers and your latest tax return

List of credit card  numbers, addresses for those cards and phone numbers

Safe deposit box key

Stock certificates, wills, powers of attorney, health care declarations, and copies of deeds and mortgages

Computer user names and passwords, kept up to date!!!

Emergency cash or traveler’s checks

PUT THIS IN A DUFFLE BAG or BACK PACK with these essentials:

Extra house and car keys

Garbage bags for sanitation

A whistle for each person to wear to signal for help

Local area map

You must also have on hand: one gallon of water for each person, a change of clothing for each person, toiletries, a sleeping bag for each person and foods needing no refrigeration or cooking.

Flashlight and radio with extra batteries….better than that, you might want to purchase a crank radio and flashlight which need no batteries.

First-aid kit, with bandages, pain relievers, etc.

Prescription meds in original packaging

Eyeglasses (with a copy of the prescription)

If you have infants or elderly people in your home, think about these additional items:

Diapers

Formula and bottles, sterilized water

Special equipment for your elderly person such as dentures or inhalers.

You will think of other things as you create your own particular kit/bag.  These are simply suggestions.

You also might need a special bag for each person, but make sure that they have it handy and know where it is!  It can’t end up in the back of the closet and/or lost.  They need to be able to GRAB and GO!!!

That is such a great idea Scott, I missed Ron's original post.  I am so NOT prepared for any type of an emergency.

Thanks for the support, Scott.  It seems that many people got some ideas from this post.  I am thankful to perhaps be a catalyst to get people thinking about this.  Great time to do it, too, what with tax season coming up!
