Finding School, Crime and Other Information During Your Relocation
Jeff Dowler is a great REALTOR, blogger and friend and he has shared some great information for those considering a relocation. Jeff covers all the bases with how to find schools, crime and other important area information. Be wise and do your homework when relocating.
Finding School, Crime and Other Information During Your Relocation
Video #9 (see below) in my Relocation Tips Video Series provides some tips on finding school, crime and other information during your relocation. The complete list of articles and videos preceding this one are listed at the bottom of the article.
Buyers often have questions about the schools and crime when seeking a new home and neighborhood. Questions such as “are the schools good in this area” or “is this a safe neighborhood” are common.
The REALTOR you are working with in your relocation should be a good resource of tips on where to get this information, and more. Here are some thoughts:
SCHOOL INFORMATION
1. Buyer clients have shared several sites for checking on schools that include rankings and other information – Great Schools and School Digger
2. Check with neighbors in the areas that interest you for their thoughts on local schools
3. Check school websites, e.g., Carlsbad Unified Schools. This site also has a school locator tool to find out which schools match up with different addresses
4. Contact the local schools directly to find out more about their programs and get answers to your questions. Visit the schools, too, when you are in town house-hunting.
CRIME INFORMATION
1. City websites and local papers
2. Local police departments
3. Crimemapping.com may be worth checking depending on the area
4. Check with neighbors, and spend time in the area at different times of the day/weekends
COMMUNITY/CITY INFORMATION
1. Local blogs, like the one you are reading for the Carlsbad CA area, will have articles about various communities and neighborhoods
2. Many cities have a website and/or a Chamber of Commerce site with a wealth of information for residents and visitors. Here’s the City of Carlsbad website and the Chamber of Commerce site.
