Thankful Thursday Tip of the Day
Are your clothes not getting dry completely?
Dryer Maintenance is often over looked and a simple test is to check your venting system.
Locate your damper vent on the exterior of your home and if your able to hold your hands under the vent while your dryer is running; you should feel a strong flow of air coming out which means it's working properly but if it's a slow gentle feel most likely it's clogged.
Dampers vents can be found on the exterior side, midway up the wall, or on the roof.
Many vent dampers are unable to access so you might have to hire a professional or just find a handyman like your wife, husband, girl/boy friend or family member to help.
Our damper vent runs up our wall and onto the roof, we clean a couple times a year to ensure good air flow and proper drying.
To prevent lint buildup clean vent once a year or even twice a year to secure even drying and less energy while running your dryer. Most vents ducts can be removed and then given a good shake to clean it out. It might be necessary to use a wet damp cloth that is wadded to run through the duct, be sure to reseal when done, you might need to use duct tape.
Most important is clean the lint filter after each use.
Avoid overloading and under-loading both waste energy.
Dry light and Heavy loads separate.
It's recommended when drying more than one load to immediately put your next load in the dryer to utilize the heat from the previous load.
OK that's the simple maintenance however if the dryer still isn't drying your clothes it could be time to call a professional to replace a leaky seal or a fuse that controls the heating element on electric dryers.
