Home Staging Information-Myth or Fact? Part II

With all the information out there, it can be hard to tell what's true and what's not. Last week I wrote the blog post Home Staging Information-Myth or Fact? Part I. Because I hear what people think about home stagers and what we do all the time, I decided to clear the air. So here's my second post on the subject, Home Staging Information-Myth or Fact? Part II.

#4-Home staging is only for high end propertiesHome Staging Information-Myth or Fact? Part II
Myth. Home staging, regardless of the listing price of the home, is always beneficial to the seller. The only difference between an "average" priced home and a high end home is the amount of staging that has to be done. In the average home, it just might be as simple as de-cluttering and re-working the existing furniture. A few touch ups in the bedroom and bathrooms and you're done! In a higher priced home, a good home stager will make sure the furniture and accessories reflect the price of the home. That might mean using rental furniture to replace the existing furniture and new accessories to tie together the whole room.

#5-"A home stager will tell me to replace all of my things"
Myth. A Montgomery County PA home stager like Six Twenty Designs will always try to work with what you have in the home first. We don't want you to spend a lot of money if you don't have to. That's why re-working your existing furniture plays such a big part during a home staging consultation. What you have probably works, just in a different arrangement or with certain pieces in another room. Your accessories are probably fine too, but we'll re-work them in a way so that it accents the room, not overpowers it.

#6-Home Staging means remodel
Myth...in most cases. For the majority of the home staging consultations we do, remodel is not on our agenda. However, there are instances where a home stager knows what you have just isn't going to work in your market.  Maybe that means ripping up the carpet and putting down hardwood floors. Maybe it means replacing the beat up cabinets with new ones and replacing the old Formica counter top with granite. Asking your home stager if it's financially beneficial, as well as for help picking out finishes, can put you on the right track to a fast sale.

I hope I've cleared up some misconceptions you've had about home staging. So the next time you hear some home staging information, ask your local home stager "Myth or Fact?".

Too often, because of the shows on TV, sellers think we knock down walls and remodel bathrooms.  Whenever possible I use what the seller has and there's no major construction at all.
