Choosing A Young, Newer Realtor A Mistake?

By
Real Estate Agent with Positive Realty

Being a younger realtor at the age of 23 I seem to get a lot of looks from the Baby Boomer Generation wondering if a younger Realtor is able to provide a good positive service to them.  The answer is ABSOLUTELY.  Granted it is obvious I cannot say that I have been in Real Estate for the Past 20+ years.  Or that I have millions of dollars worth of sales under my belt.  But the same goes for me as any other Realtor.  And the question should not be "How old is this kid?" or "How long has he been in Real Estate?" but "Can this agent provide me with the quality of service I deserve?"  Let's face it... The younger generation "Y" is the future of our work force.  Love it or hate it, Y is here.

generation yWhy a young or newer agent is good for you.
1.) They will tend to work harder being they need this next sale.  It sounds bad, but it's not.  Make sure they are not 'pressuring' you into anything.
2.) They also want a good name for themselves.  Being they are newer into the industry, bad news travels faster than good, they will do everything in their power to make sure your happy and that everything goes smoothly and as planned.
3.) Younger agents rarely will put business hours on your real estate goals.  Meaning the willingness to work late and work harder for you is alot greater.

Now looking into an agent of any age or years of experience, look at the Brokerage he/she works for.  Ask around and find out what the word is on the Brokerage.  Ask peoples past experiences, good and bad and make up your mind that way.  Does the brokerage have a history of a revolving door of agents (agent number game) or do most agents go there and stay?  That is going to tell you a lot about the agents that work under them.  Sometimes what I have seen in this industry is the smaller ‘Local' company tends (but not always) to have a more relaxed, personal feeling that most people Buying or Selling are looking for.  Which company has the biggest billboard in town, the nicest building, or the biggest newspaper ad is only skin deep. Look deeper at the reputation and the service you will receive. Remember, an agent is only as good as the Brokerage backing them up.

Also is your agent ‘up on the times' in other words are they technology driven.  80% of people now begin their searches on the internet before even talking to an agent first.  Stereotypical but generally true, the younger generation is usually more apt to building their e-image and being ‘up on the times'.

Do some homework and find a good positive agent to work for you and don't judge right away just solely based on age and years of experience.
