My Dream Home Would Include a Big Kitchen Island & a Wrap-Around Porch
I love the challenge posed by Beazer Homes and Active Rain, "What's in Your New Dream Home?".
There are two features I would put in my new dream home.
1. I am currently contemplating a redo in part of my kitchen. If I were building a new home, I would make sure that the kitchen had a big island. Our original plan included an island in the kitchen but due to some other challenges at the time of building, the island did not fit in. Now I'm ready to redo and put it in there. When my son built his D log home in Neosho, MO, the kitchen did have a huge island.
- Everyone gathered at the island.
- Homework was completed there,
- croissants were formed there,
- scrapbooking occurred,
- coffee was shared,
- meals and snacks were eaten.
The island was the center of their house, not just the center of their kitchen. I'm ready for that!
2. My new dream home would have to be on the farm because I don't plan 
on leaving the farm until they take me off of it in a long narrow box. Country life blends the inside with the outside quite often.
- The porch is often the gathering spot for iced tea,
- the place where the newborn calf is rescued and boxed while nursing back to health until we can get her/him on another mama cow,
- the place where neighbors sit and visit,
- where I sit and watch the jennys in the pasture, and
- listen to the Mocking Birds in the trees.
- It's the place where Bernie, my rescue Terrier rests and waits for us to return home.
- It's where we duck in out of the rain while getting the door unlocked.
A wrap-around porch, all the way around the house, just like my Grandmother had.. that's what I want in a new home.
