If you live in any of the Towns in Southern New Hampshire, I'll bet one of the reasons you moved to the Town you live in is because of the rural setting and the beauty of the Town. As many of us know, land development has been rising over the past decade or so, and many of us have become concerned about this (even Realtors).
It appears that Local Governments also are becoming increasingly concerned about growth in their Towns, and many have been doing something about this. Over the past 10 years or so many Towns have formed Conservation Committees to look at land conservation in their Towns, below is a list of some Towns and the statistics on how much land has been placed into Conservation. The stats come from estimates from local conservation commission members.
Atkinson- 7% = 525 acres
Derry- 6% = 1,600 acres
Hampstead-12% = 1,000 acres
Kingston- 12% = 1,500 acres
Londonderry-6% = 1,600 acres
Pelham- 10%= 1,600 acres
Windham- 8%= 1,400 acres
I think all residents in these Towns and other Towns that have done Land Conservation should give themselves and their Town Governments a round of applause for their efforts.
