Years ago ( back in 1973 ) a group of Houston musicians sang about a famous brothel on the outskirts of this small Texas town - Do you remember the song La Grange by ZZ Top? Yes, La Grange had one of the oldest continuos running brothels ( opened in 1844 ) and probably the last remaining legal brothel outside of locations in Nevada until it was shut down in 1973. There was also a movie was made about it - Best Little Whorehouse in TX. But don't let the song and the shenanigan's in the movie mislead you La Grange now is just as quaint and quirky ( minus the brothel! ) and is located just off Hwy 71 ( which runs from Austin to I-10 between San Antonio and Houston). The ground is fertile and the area is filled with beautiful rolling farm and ranch land. There is a large Germanic and Czechoslovakian populas who's immigrant families settled in the area before the civil war. So lots of history, good folks, good food, and good polka in this area!
