Sticking it to us at the pumps - Diesel @ $4.05/gallon

By
Real Estate Agent with Windermere Real Estate

This morning, Diesel cost $4.04.9/gallon!  This is just another rant about gasoline prices.... This is absolutely insane.  I spend over $100 to fill my tank up, and it's not just at the pumps that we feel the cost of this - We feel it at the grocery store too, as the cost to deliver the food is going up with the price of Diesel.  Light, sweet crude for May delivery dropped $3.56 to $102.06 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.  Yet, Diesel and gasoline prices are still on the rise, and not predicted to come down.  NO relief in sight. Something to think about when you're at the polls, ready to cast your vote for president.  The past 8 years have been absolutely catastrophic to our economy in general, not just to gas prices.

You can research where to buy gasoline at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/gasprices/states/index.shtml This website is a great resource to research and find the best prices on gas in your area.

This year, instead of buying a large SUV or truck, consider downsizing to a more fuel-efficient car.  My next purchase is going to be a hybrid... With gasoline prices the way they are, and are predicted to continue to be, it's the only economical option.

Jonelle ~ I feel your pain. I'm sure most of us do, unfortunately. I think that it should be a crime with prices being so high at the pumps - BUT the companies are making record profits. Congress is "trying" to find answers for us - but the big question is: WHAT WILL THEY DO ABOUT IT? See: Congress Has Big Questions for Big Oil . According to the article, the Big Oil companies combined earned $123 billion!

It's really insane.

It's a Great plan "they" have.  Keep raising it until it hit's $3.50, $4.00, $4.50 a gallon and then drop it to $3.75 so everyone thinks "It's getting better".  Then leave it there for a few months and start the entire process over.

I remember the last "Plateau" when it went over $2.00.  Everyone was complaining as it kept going up and up and up.  Now we'd be thrilled at $2.50 a gallon.

If you keep on top of the market....you keep hearing about the speculative market.  "A MIDDLE MAN"  We need to get rid of this unnecessary group.   There are a lot of reasons for the price of gas and oil.  Blaming just one politician or all of them without considering what is happening in the global market and global economy, is putting your head in the sand.  We need to keep abreast of the entire picture.

Cutting back our usage is the one control we have.  I went from a small van to a smaller sized car as one of my vehicles.  Why run a van at 23 mph when i can use the car at 32mpg and accomplish the same task.

Jonelle that is expensive, $100?!  I have been noticing it in the grocery store too.  It's going to be difficult for everyone to afford the basics soon.  They say the prices are supposed to increase even more for groceries!!

We've cut back on everything that costs us money-electricity use, food, driving etc.  Gasoline is supposed to reach $4/gal this year-I don't know how people are going to cope.  This country has got to find good alternatives to fossil fuels, and not in 100 years-we need it now.

I haven't filled my gas tank for a long time. I only buy what I need at the moment. Sad I know but it helps me think about where I'm going and what I'm spending! It's amazing that people aren't cutting back more than they seem to be - in my opinion.

I dumped $1,000 and converted my diesel vehicle to burn grease...Its awesome!  I buy about 9 gallons of fuel a month!  The rest is run on grease I get from kitchens around town.  My exhaust smells like chicken!

You might want to check into the environmental impact of the hybrid cars before you do that, those batteries that they need for those cars are pretty hard on the environment. Just thought you should know.
