On Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Catawba Science Center (CSC) and Hickory Museum of Art (HMA) will partner to host a costume-making event to help make some very special costumes.

This event is inspired by CSC’s Light Moves exhibition, and will take place in CSC’s Inventor’s Workshop.  Participants, with the assistance of local engineers, will have the opportunity to create costumes using lengths of Electro-Luminescent Wire (EL Wire).

Each participant will be provided with 10 feet of EL Wire and a power source. This flexible, battery-powered wire provides enough opportunity for the creation of mind-bending costumes just in time for the season.

This event is open to all ages, children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Pre-registration is required for this event.

Event cost is $15 for members and $25 for non-members.

Participants must provide their own costume material, such as a t-shirt, sweatshirt or cardboard on which to design their creation. The workshop will be limited to 25 participants.

Call 828-322-8169 for more information or to register for the Electro-Luminescent Costume Workshop. The Light Moves exhibition is featured in the Edgerton Gallery until October 26, 2014.

CSC is located in the Arts and Science Center of Catawba Valley, on the SALT Block, 243 3rd Avenue NE, Hickory.
