What is a "Green" Home?

By
Real Estate Agent with Windermere Real Estate

This afternoon, I attended a work shop on high performance homes!  You can check it out at http://eeba.org/calendar/index.asp - I highly recommend you attend if you are in a market where this is available!  The instructor talked about the definition of "green" homes, and it definitely clarified for me what constitutes "green".  There are a lot of definitions, but really, they all come down to these 5 things:

-    Efficient use of land and water resources
-    Efficient use of energy
-    Efficient use of Materials
-    Durable Construction
-    Healthy Indoor Environments

I will be writing a little more on each of these in the upcoming weeks - so please check back!  As always, please feel free to comment with any questions or if you have anything to add.

Green homes Jonelle are definitely for environmentally friendly homeowners and I applaud anyone that builds or buys one with that in mind. I did my part with some Solar Board and high efficiency air conditioners, but there is so much more one can do.
