Everyone At The Party Was Retirement Age

By
Real Estate Agent with Remax Realty Group 316581

I just got home from attending a bonfire that was sponsored by one of the local title companies. This party is an annual party, it's a thank you for business. There was no specific demographic invited - the invitation went out to people that had done business with the title company this past year or in the recent past.  I had a great time, but I couldn't help but notice the age of the Real Estate agents at the party (including my husband & myself). At a glance,  the average age of the party goer was about 55-60. There were only a handful of Real Estate agents under 30. I guess an argument could be made that many of the young agents have little kids and when they do go out they don't want to spend their night with other Real Estate agents, or maybe the younger demographic doesn't like company parties or possibly they don't like bonfires.

There aren't that many young Real Estate agents. This was one of the first times it hit me how long I have been in this business (almost 25 years). I am so proud to be a Realtor and and this has been a wonderful career for me.  I really do hope that we have an influx of new young agents come into the business - there is plenty of room for people with enthusiasm and ideas! I also noticed that there was great energy in those older Real Estate Agents- everyone was dancing and having a great time - tomorrow is a work day for most of them, but you would never have known that with all the dancing and partying going on!

It was a good party. It is always fun to spend some time with friends. Our thanks to Village Settlements for this annual fall event at Butlers Orchard.

The age group is typical of the successful real estate agents in our area. Smart brokers should be developing younger agents who will better relate to the needs of home buyers.

That is interesting, but maybe your right, the younger agents have more responsibilities at home and can't get out of the house that easy...

It was a great time last night at Butler's Orchard. Now that you mention it the crowd, including myself, was mostly on the second half of life. Ah - but we all had a great time.

We have the same problem in our board. The old tried and trues attend the functions and the younger agents are scarce. We are headscratching trying to figure outhow to get them more involved. I do not have an answer.

Belinda Spillman yes it is around 50...I am surprised that there are not more young people in our profession.

Nice to hear that you enjoyed yourselves. I see a fair number of younger agents around here and they are ambitious and aggressive.

Ann Marie Clements tough to determine why some attend social events and others do not. My solution is just to try to have fun whereever I am. Works for me.

A bonfire party sounds real good right now in this cold snap we are having. We only have one title company in town at this time and my hats off to them for being very civic minded like the one you mention. They support just about everything local and always throw great parties to!

Suzanne De Vita Yes I agree! I think one of the best things about being a Real Estate agent is that you have to stay young and have a young mind. Some Realtors work well into their 80's but you would never know they are that age. They look like they are years younger. They keep their mind fresh and their appearance up to date. Have a great weekend!

I have noticed that a number of the long-time agents in my market, many of whom are over 70, are not doing that much business. However, there is a good number of younger agents who I've started to see. I agree with your last comment, too, that good agents stay current and that helps them "stay young". As far as I'm concerned, 50 is the new 35! lol

Oh. We're everywhere. Walking slowly. Squinting at what-should-be legible text. Telling the same anecdote 12 times a week. But I didn't know we attended bonfires. Excellent pot Ann Marie- I loved it.
